On June 9, 2026, our colleague Mario Fedele, Laboratory Manager, participated as a speaker in the workshop “Enhancing digestates through struvite recovery”, held at the Ferrara Technopole as part of the research project “Digestate treatment to reduce emissions and recover a fertilizer: Struvite”.

During the workshop, the results of the experimental activities carried out by our company were presented. We contributed to the project through a series of laboratory trials and tests conducted using an industrial pilot filter press. The activities focused on conditioning struvite precipitates with different polyelectrolytes, flocculants, and inorganic reagents, followed by dewatering and filter press tests to assess process efficiency and identify the best operating conditions.

Approximately 40 participants attended the event, including researchers, sustainability professionals, and representatives of companies interested in the project outcomes. “During the presentation, participants showed great interest, particularly in the filter press technology. The workshop also provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss potential applications of nutrient recovery technologies,” said Mario Fedele after the event.

The initiative, promoted by a partnership led by CRPA (Research Centre on Animal Production) in collaboration with the University of Bologna and funded through European funds provided by the Emilia-Romagna Region, aims to develop innovative solutions for digestate valorization through the recovery of struvite, a natural fertilizer with high agronomic value.
